Learning French, or any other foreign language, can be a tough job if you're an adult. As a child a new language is much easier to learn. Even high school French classes are easier! That is because as an adult learning is comparatively difficult because adults tend to compare a new language to languages they already know or speak. Therefore, the complexity level of one is not equal to the other. On the other hand, children learn by the sponge method, where they simply absorb everything that is being taught.

Our language abilities tend to slow down a little as we grow older. It's always easier, therefore, to pick up a language in school rather than later in life. One of the main reasons for this is that adults we tend to question why the language works in a particular way, why the structure of the words are not similar to the structure of our native tongue. It's easy to get annoyed by conventional language programs, since you'll need to put in a lot of hard work and progress will be slow.

There's no need to get discouraged. Everybody can pick up a language no matter how old they are. It's all a matter of finding a reliable that guides you through the language at your own pace.
